Prof Sagay Reveals Motives Behind Biafra Agitators

Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), a constitutional lawyer and Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Corruption has scolded the advocates of the agitation of Biafra Republic.
Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), a constitutional lawyer and Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Corruption said Igbos are trying to intimidate President Muhammadu Buhari
Speaking on Thursday, January 7, in a chat with Daily Independent, he revealed that the proponents of Biafra are doing so for selfish reasons.
The legal luminary while speaking on why the agitation became so intense after the immediate past administration of president Goodluck Jonathan, he alleged that those responsible for the agitation are doing so to intimidate President Muhammadu Buhari into ceding positions the Igbos do not merit to them after marginalizing themselves with controversies in the present government.
Sagay also accused the Igbos of being resolute loyalists of Jonathan, adding that the Igbos whom occupied 50% of federal positions in the country in the past administration decided to rig for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last general election.
He said after the Igbos failed with their rigging based on lack of principle, opportunism, they resorted to reviving the Biafra agitation as strategy to negotiate with the federal government for appointments they don’t deserve.
“I have been studying elections very closely in this country since 2007. The Igbos were committed to Goodluck Jonathan. But they didn’t leave it at that just convince people to vote for him.
“They decided to rig for PDP and Jonathan. They did that yet, the party still lost out at the federal level. So, they lost out.
“If you look at Jonathan’s government, the Igbos were in almost 50 percent of positions in this country. But they lost out because of their rigging and opportunism and lack of principle.
“And now they want to take it out on Buhari by resurrecting Biafra. They want to intimidate Buhari so much. They will now want to negotiate with them and start giving them things and positions they don’t deserve. That is intimidation and threat for no just cause.
“In summary, they rigged themselves out of contention in the present administration and they are not prepared to accept the consequence of their own actions,” Sagay said.
Meanwhile, Professor Itse Sagay was recently in the news when an interview he granted one Olakunle Taiwo, a reporter with Nigerian Tribune was allegedly concoted and quoted him to have described President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption efforts as “selective” and “cosmetic.”  He was alleged to have accused the APC and its members of corruption.
But the reporter in a recent interview explained that he mistakenly dialed the wrong number while copying the lawyer’s number from his boss’s phone.
Also, Professor Sagay has expressed his dismay at the level of corruption that took place during the government of Jonathan and has advised him to have a chat with President Buhari and confess all he knows.
