A Magistrate Court in Umuahia, Abia State on Friday granted bail to 76 Ugwuleshi people from Awgu Community in Enugu State who were detained at the Umuahia Prisons.
DAILY POST recalls that 76 Ugwuleshi people were arrested recently by soldiers for protesting over the alleged abduction of two of their women by Fulani herdsmen.
Those arrested were charged with arson and illegal possession of arms and they were sent to Umuahia prison for two weeks.
They were however arraigned on Friday before a magistrate court on a five count charge of arson and illegal possession of dangerous weapons and burning down of 90 houses at Obinwanne, a Fulani Community Settlement in Umunneochi area of Enugu State.
When the charges were read to them, they pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate granted them bail in the sum of N200,000 each with five sureties who must be resident in Umuahia or Umunneochi.
