Money For Promotion Scam Hits NSCDC

Officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) have accused top officials of the corps of asking for bribe from junior officials to be considered for promotion in the service.
The Sun reports that some officers were unhappy with the fact that some junior officers paid as much as N300,000 to be promoted.

A source claimed that officers were promoted without even sitting for the promotional examination.
The source said“To the surprise of workers, about 95 per cent of officers recruited in 2012 were promoted two to three steps ahead, under the ‘Special Promotion category, without even writing the promotion test, a development that has left workers angry and disgruntled.”
Emmanuel Okehs, the spokesperson of the NSCDC has however denied that any case of undeserved promotion or bribery to secure promotion existed in the corps.

He said: ‘‘another promotion exercise is due in December but in order not to have a situation where those that were promoted in the last exercise are slated for promotion exams again, we have decided to carry out a verification exercise. So, if anyone is talking about bribery for promotion, there is nothing of such.”
The NSCDC is a paramilitary agency formed to supress threat and attacks against the citizens in the country.
