LEADERS of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council and Trade Union Congress (TUC) who early in the week, opposed buying of Prado Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV) for members of the House of Assembly and government appointees yesterday apologised for their actions.
Some national dailies (Not Daily Sun) early in the week accused the Enugu State government of buying SUVs to distribute to legislators and appointees free-of-charge.
The leader of TUC, who spoke on behalf of the others, Igbokwe C. Igbokwe said they did not have adequate information on the SUVs until after their meeting with Ugwuanyi yesterday.
“We met with His Excellency today who gave us clarifications on the scheme of the project and at the end of the day we discussed and reconciled the issue.
“Let me commend His Excellency’s modus operandi because each time there are issues he makes out time to bring people to make explanations,” Igbokwe said, adding that Ugwuanyi discussed extensively with them on the SUV and they are satisfied with his explanations.
Also, Ugwuanyi has approved N2 million as contribution of the state government to the pool of funds for the upkeep of the three orphaned children of Amaja Community, in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of the state whose parents were murdered in their sleep in their home.
The three orphaned children namely Chisom Aba (eight years old), Ikedi Aba (6 years old), and Chinyere Aba, who is just eight months old now have the opportunity to further their education and grow into adulthood.
Their parents, Marcel and Jacinta Aba, late parents of the three orphans, were slaughtered in their sleep on September 20, by unknown assailants.
The governor’s gesture was in reaction to October 21 letter to him through the member representing Igbo-Eze North 1 Constituency in Enugu State House of Assembly, Mrs. Ethel Ugwuanyi and written by the traditional ruler of Amaja Community, Igwe I.C Idoko.
