Enugu Govt takes no action after expiration date to return government number plate by past government functionaries

The Enugu State Government last month warned former government officials in the State to return number plates in their possession or face immediate arrest. The warning was issued by CSP F.N. Ogarabe, the Chief Security Officer (CSO) . “The attention of the Enugu State Government has been drawn to the illegal use of government plate numbers by former government functionaries both elected and appionted, and other unathourized persons. “In view of the security implication of such abuse, the affected persons are advised to return the plate numbers to the Office of the Chief Security Officer to the Governor, Lion Building, Government House, Enugu, on or before 31st Janaury, 2016.“Those whom government vehicles earlier assigned to them were monitized but are still retaining the official inscription of the state government numbers on the vehicles, are equally advised to erase the numbers and replace them with private plate numbers within the same time frame. “Defaulters will be handed over to the Security Agencies for appropriate action.”
No visible action have been taken to arrest this situation as private vehicles with government number plates are seen in all the routes in the state capital and beyond.
